About Me

Jack Napier is a PhD student in the Department of Sociology at the University of Cambridge. He previously completed an MPhil in Politics and International Studies at Cambridge, where his dissertation examined Germany’s responses to immigration through the lens of secularism and national identity. He also holds a BA in International Relations from New York University, with a minor in the German language.

His doctoral research analyses European migration policy responses across multiple states, with particular attention to the role of secular constructs, racism, and national identity. Building on his MPhil, his project combines qualitative interviews with migration experts, media discourse analysis, and quantitative data to explain how divergent national responses to migration emerge. His work seeks to contribute to wider debates on migration governance, the politics of belonging, and identity in Europe.
